Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the team reach places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Questers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can expect learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
